Business is Rolling

Tanger Outlets National Harbor open, National Harbor gains bus service, and Greenbelt a frontrunner for FBI headquarters but do they want it?

I can’t believe I actually published this the first time without a title.  Sorry folks.  It’s the end of the day and my 5-hour energy is over.  ahahahaaa!!
The City of Greenbelt and Fairfax County are frontrunners for the new FBI headquarters, it would seem.  According to the Washington Business Journal, “A soon-to-be advertised request for expressions of interest seeks Metro and Beltway accessible sites of roughly 50 acres — large enough to accommodate 2.1 million square feet of rentable and related space, plus parking, ancillary facilities and security set backs. Site bids will be accepted through Dec. 17.  However, the GSA advertisement requires that the site be within two miles of a Metrorail station and 2.5 miles from a Beltway interchange (or inside the Beltway), which immediately removes Loudoun and Prince William counties from the conversation, as well as Westphalia in Prince George’s. D.C., which offered just 10 acres at Poplar Point for the FBI, would seem to be out as well — which may not be such a bad thing, financially speaking.  The GSA warehouse in Springfield, backed by Fairfax County leaders, and Greenbelt in Prince George’s, backed by County Executive Rushern Baker, still appear to be the frontrunners.”
GreenbeltOf course I’m pulling for the Resettlement City of Greenbelt because this is PGC Blog, duh.  Even more than that, I think Greenbelters are just quirky and innovative enough to make this federal tenant work for them.  To my Greenbelters: go for it and require the FBI to invest in your community.  Don’t let them build a fortress where they only park in spots, peek out windows.
Green Line MetroMore bus service instead of the proposed cuts to bus service are coming for National Harbor and Branch Avenue Metro starting next month, December 2013..  With Tanger Outlets opening tomorrow, MGM Casino coming to National Harbor (yes, I know they’re haven’t sealed the deal yet), Westphalia on course to be a behemoth development of retail/office space/housing, and a Super Wal-Mart coming to Oxon Hill, WHERE did Metro think all the people who will staff these places will come from?  Alexandria? No.  DC? Absolutely not.  Well maybe not absolutely not.  My Green Line folk in DC-shout out to– and other working class neighborhood residents will be staffing these sites. Large portions of staff for all these developments will be coming from the ever changing south part of our county and Prince George’s County as a whole so why would anyone ever consider CUTTING bus service from Branch Avenue.  Scoop from the Dr. Gridlock reads: “The changes include adding a new bus route at National Harbor to provide another transit option for the late-night and weekend workers in the southern Prince George’s County resort area. The NH3, which will launch in December, comes after growing demand from workers in an area that has become an employment hub and a regional destination with entertainment, retail shops, restaurants and hotels. It is viewed as a step toward improving transit options in and around National Harbor, where transportation has been limited and the closest Metrorail station is about four miles away. The new bus line will provide a bus connection for people whose work shifts begin before Metrorail opens and end after 11 p.m.”  Now that sounds like sense but I’m sure this “sense” was inspired by some dialog between WMATA, the Peterson Cos, and MGM.
tanger grand openingNovember 22nd is the big day for Tanger Outlet National Harbor, 6800 Oxon Hill Road.  The grand opening of starts at 9 a.m. and will feature holiday music and a fireworks show starting at 7pm on Friday.  Throughout the weekend there will be give aways, live music from The Society and other strolling music, fashion packages, a photo booth and more.  Holiday hours are Monday-Saturday 9am-10pm, Sunday 10am-7pm.  Get signed up for coupons and deals at the Tanger website right HERE.  I’m ok with Tanger but they really need to add some major anchor stores like Nieman Marcus’s Last Call, Nordstrom Rack, Super Marshall’s, Barney’s, or something.  I’m glad for all the jobs the place has brought, especially this time of the year.  Can’t wait to see what the Prince George’s County employment numbers look like next quarter; that will tell the real story.

I agree Tanger need high end stores. I really don’t see any stores that I would like to shop in .

I’d love 2 see them add Neiman Marcus Last Call & Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH, which I think will come when the Casino opens. But overall I think they did a good job. Splitting hairs imo 2 say you can’t find anything.
