About PGC Blog
My name is Cheryl Ingraham. Friends call me Ceemac.

I’m new to Prince George’s County by way of neighboring Washington, DC, where I was born and raised. Since 2009, I have been a resident of Greater Upper Marlboro, MD but I still feel like I know very little about the place. You’d think because I grew up so close to the County, I’d know more about it but alas, I don’t.

I knew that the Capitol Center was in P.G. Co., Sugar Ray Leonard boxed in Palmer Park, and most of the malls that we frequented with my Dad (Iverson, Eastover, and Landover) were in Maryland. P.G. was also where family friends fled to get out of the city and I had determined that I’d not ever be one of those people who moved to the suburbs.

This blog is my way of coming to know my new home and ultimately, it’s an effort for me to find enough here so that I don’t have to go back into DC on the weekends. My DJ (day job) is in DC and I still love the city with all it’s museums, walkability, happenings, restaurants, food, shopping, and theater. But mama has gotten older and does not feel up to the 30-45 minute schlep into the city on the weekends just to dine or see a good show.

Where can I get my natural hair done? What theater productions, exhibits, and movies are opening? Who has the best sushi/bar-b-que/Indian food? How about women’s and men’s fashions in the area? Where are the malls, boutiques, consignment shops, and shoe stores for me and my husband?

In addition to learning my way around the physical landscape of P.G., I have to acclimate myself to a whole new political scene. I actually have representation in the Congress of the United States now; novel idea. Another quest is to know the political positions of all these delegates, representatives and the senator who represents my ward, whoops, I mean congressional district and state.

Today, Prince George’s County has a blog all its own and someone to help in providing a voice for a county that has been spoken of but seldom spoken to or for. As I learn about PGCo, I hope to inspire you to do the same.
