I had never been to a Cirque du Soleil production. Amaluna under the Big Top at National Harbor was my first Cirque experience. All I can say is “WOW!” Let me start off by saying I’d heard from The Hubster, friends, and coworkers that I’d love any performance by Cirque du Soleil I would attend but I had my doubts. I’m one of those people who never liked the circus. Growing up in DC, I would see the annual Spring parade of elephants and circus folk coming down East Capitol Street and wonder how I could get out of having to attend. No one made you go, it was just the thing to do. I didn’t like the smells, nor the food, not fond of the acts, really didn’t like those strange clowns. A jaded DC baby was not exactly sure Cirque du Soliel wouldn’t bring all those same feelings to the surface.
Then came Amaluna. Under Cirque’s Big Top, there was a whole other experience to be had that was worlds away from my cotton candy scented, clown filled nightmare. First thing I noticed was the one stage in the middle of the tent. Yes. This isn’t a three ring circus. Amaluna‘s production started before it started. Performers are interactive but not scary like clowns. I don’t want to tell you too much about the performance because I HAVE FREE TICKETS FOR TWO OF YOU TO EXPERIENCE IT FOR YOURSELF!!!
Two of my readers will win two tickets each to the AUGUST 28TH Cirque du Soleil’s Amaluna Show. To win the tickets, you must share this post, “Amaluna I’m in Love,” on Facebook and on Twitter; if you only have one account, share it twice on that social media. See Cirque du Soleil‘s Amaluna and be swept up in the coming of age story of Miranda, the pure drama played out between this young woman and her suitor Romeo. This production has some of the most unbelievable acrobatics that you will ever lay eyes on. One of the main characters climbs a poll as if he’s Spider Man; he slides up and down this pole so swiftly that he seriously comes within a half inch of totally biting it. His close call made me do the big gasp. You know the one that says “I’d clap right now but I’m totally freaked out.”
Seriously. See this show. There are gymnasts, a juggler/antagonist that you will just love to hate (but how can you hate someone who can groove like that?), a 5 foot swimming bowl you wouldn’t believe anyone could make use of, a group from the Republic of China that will mesmerize you with “glowing watermeteors”, brute strength, and astounding agility. It’s just an amazing show.
