Friday, September 2nd

Movies on the Potomac at National Harbor showing  “Seabiscuit.”  Movies begin just after sunset and it’s free to the public.  Lawn chairs are recommended, no coolers with food or alcohol are allowed.
Greenbelt Labor Day Festival.  This event features a parade, Miss Greenbelt pageant, craft fair, talent show, live music, carnival rides, sports, art and a used book sale.Friday 9 a.m.-11 p.m., See Web site for daily schedule; carnival times vary. Roosevelt Center, Crescent and Southway roads, Greenbelt. 301-675-0585. Free Admission. Ride tickets $1 each or 25 tickets for $20. Family Fest at National Harbor, 1-7pm,  features rides, fireworks, food, games, hand/line dance workout and live performances by Raheem DeVaughn, Jay Hayden, and Jumohny. $15 & $20 Admission cost.

HGTV “Showhouse Showdown”  Come be a part of this design show’s audience! “Showhouse Showdown” features a competition between two professional interior designers who get identical budgets and the chance to create a winning interior design for two newly-built, mirror image Integrity Homes models.  The first 100 people on site will be given a scorecard to vote in the competition by stating which of the designer’s rooms they prefer over the other and then finally answering the all-important question, “Which of the two homes would they buy?”  Takes place from1 p.m. – 3 p.m. at  512 & 520 Overlook Park Drive, Potomac Overlook Brownstone Community, National Harbor, MD RSVP: No registration is required. LABOR DAY CAPITOL CONCERT 2011 National Symphony Orchestra, West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol. Chuck Brown and Mercedes Ellington (The Duke’s daughter) are special guests performing with the NSO. Gates open at 3pm and it’s FREE!  In the event of inclement weather, the concert will take place in the Kennedy Center Concert Hall .
