Little Good Little Bad (Demo)

I’m getting older, needing different nutrients to stop portions of my body from cracking and creaking. Still, I have no desire to be young-er.  My mind doesn’t harken back to rose-tinted recollections of a youth filled with slumber parties and sorority socials.  Growing up in DC was the best with its theater in the park performances, Folklife Festivals, block parties, summer league basketball, city streets, uptown eats, and neighbors that lived where you lived because they liked you and the neighborhood.
PGCSIF Forty UNDER 40It’s a different day now.  It’s still my day, but another sun is in the East and a different DC is to my west.  Doesn’t every generation say that though? “Things have changed!” Now I’ve done it. I’ve crossed over into being the “them” spoken of with disdain by persons between the ages of 18 and 34.  AND I LIKE IT!!! Unlike most of the generations that preceded me, I don’t thing that things changing is all bad, just a bit bad, just a bit.  But just a bit good too.  Just a bit.  Good: The 2014 Forty UNDER 40 cohort was announced by Prince George’s County Social Innovation Fund. Take a gander at all the great faces whose various areas of recognition span from public service and education to business to science and engineering. I’ll be interviewing a few of them so let me know which ones you’re most interested in.
crimeA lil bit bad is this, the cold weather has brought out the supreme thief in a group of jackasses in our county.  Please be careful to NOT start your car and leave it, even if you’re close by in your home.  There have been a rash of car thefts over the last 2 weeks.  Prince George’s County Police report that Tuesday morning, Jan. 7th, two cars were stolen in the Kettering area, and two others were taken from homes in Bowie.  It’s probably the same group of criminals; 4 cars in Prince George’s were stolen while the owner warmed the up in the driveway last week too.  Also there have been several armed robberies.  A sub shop in the 4800 block of Glenn Dale Road in Bowie was robbed on January 3, 2014. Three suspects walked into the store, two of them pulled out guns while the third jumped the counter and demanded cash. They then ran from the business.  And on Saturday January 4th, there was an armed robbery of a liquor store in the 3600 block of Old Silver Hill Road in Suitland. Our preliminary investigation reveals the thief pulled out a gun and demanded cash from employees. The frightened employees complied. Just before leaving the store, the suspect fired one shot towards the refrigerators. No one was hurt this time.  Next time there could be a death.  Please call the Police if you THINK you know something.
