Strange News (Demo)

There’s just strange stuff going on in the news.  In the entertainment world you have Justin Bieber spiraling downward into becoming a full fledged addict and the likes of Miley Cyrus basically sending word that the Biebster needs to hire better people so that he can stay out of trouble.  Former American Idol runner up Clay Aiken is considering a run for a U.S. Congressional seat, and murderer George Zimmerman is trying to pawn himself off in “celebrity” boxing matches to make his ends meet.  I’m not EVEN posting a link to that mess.
Sixth and I Jewish CenterTwo odd local stories caught my eye today too.  One is about a Black church in Hyattsville that has joined with a Jewish Center to form a gospel choir.  Wrap your head around that.  Turner Memorial AME Church in Hyattsville, MD was originally located in DC on 6th and I NW; this site is the former Adas Israel Synagogue and today, it’s a Jewish Center.  The leaders of Turner Memorial and the Jewish Center thought the future of both congregations should be intertwined and continue on a path together.  Interesting read.

Police Chase BlurredThe other odd story was a crime story that involved a naked man who was the victim of a kidnapping in Laurel.  From WUSA9:

During a police pursuit of a vehicle headed the wrong way down a street in Laurel, police say a naked man jumped out of the vehicle. He was later determined to be a kidnapping victim.  At approximately 1:16 a.m. Tuesday, a Laurel Police Officer saw a vehicle without its headlights on and traveling in the wrong direction of a one-way street in the 700 block of Fifth St., according to police. The officer turned on his lights and siren to try to stop the vehicle. Authorities say the vehicle made an illegal right turn onto Talbott Avenue continued in the wrong direction. It slowed down to turn right onto Washington Boulevard (Route 1), and that’s when a naked man jumped out of the moving vehicle’s passenger side.  The pursuit continued into the Laurel Shopping Center and then turned north onto Route 1. The vehicle crashed into three parked cars at the Car America Dealership at 10052 N Washington Blvd, North Laurel before coming to rest upside down against a telephone pole.
Two men inside the car were injured. They were evaluated by Emergency Medical Technicians on the scene, say police. One man was transported to Baltimore Shock Trauma and the other to Laurel Regional Hospital. Officers later determined that the person who had been seen jumping from the moving vehicle was the victim of a kidnapping and armed robbery. They also recovered a loaded .40 caliber handgun from the crashed vehicle. Police say that Donte Powell, 27, of Washington D.C. and Douglas Mention, 26, of South Carolin, will be charged with armed robbery, kidnapping, and weapons related charges. Other charges are pending.
