Tanger Outlets Breaks Ground in County (Demo)

Tanger Outlets breaks ground on new outlet mall in Prince George’s County.

The new Tanger Outlets mall, to be called Tanger Outlets National Harbor,  will be located at the base of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge and directly accessible from the Capital Beltway and Indian Head Highway. The 340,000 square foot center’s unique features will include a modern design with a pedestrian friendly layout that will include both covered and uncovered spaces.  There will be approximately 80 brand name and designer outlet stores including Calvin Klein, H&M, IZOD, Gap Factory Store, American Eagle Outfitters, Tommy Hilfiger, Banana Republic Factory Store, White House Black Market Outlet, Chico’s Outlet, Columbia, Brooks Brothers Factory Store, Aeropostale, P.S. by Aeropostale, J. Crew Factory Store, Le Creuset Outlet.  It’s estimated that the mall will be open and ready for shopping by Christmas of 2013.
Think about it: the National Harbor is there.  Tanger Outlets is opening and it’s almost a done deal that MGM will open at National Harbor too.  WHAT is traffic going to be like?  It’s going to be a hot spot though.

Traffic will indeed be a challenge. I have always thought that in general we are spoiled with beltway traffic in Prince George’s county vs. the rest of the region. Of course that is because by and large we have been a bedroom community and we have not had the amenities that exist in the rest of the region. As a homeowner, I am excited about the added tax base and I hope that moving forward, the new revenue will allow for the planning of something like the Ride On system in Montgomery, the Circulator in DC or the DASH that they have in Alexandria to increase accessibility throughout the county.

minor correction: the scheduled opening is in time for the 2013 holiday shopping season not 2014.
