This information to you from CBS News WNEW “Two University of Maryland students are dead and another is wounded following an early morning murder-suicide just off campus. The triple shooting occurred in the 8700 block of 36th Avenue in College Park shortly after 1 a.m. police say. A preliminary investigation reveals one student lit a fire in the basement of the home, prompting two roommates to confront him. The three men went out to the front yard where the student who started the fire shot one of the roommates. As the second roommate attempted to run, the gunman turned and shot him. The shooter then went to the backyard where he took his own life, police say.
Police Chief Davis says that he can’t recall another crime of this type happening at the University of Maryland. Something has got to give and change. The University of Maryland has been in the news lately after a series of robberies and break-ins. “Both students shot in the front yard were taken to the hospital where one was pronounced dead, Prince George’s County Police spokesperson Julie Parker says. The surviving victim’s injuries are described as non-life threatening. Police have recovered the weapon used in the shooting and are not seeking additional suspects.
